Onycophora_7553.jpg

Coolatai NSW Australia

After living in Coolatai for over 20 years I was gobsmacked to discover a Velvet Worm under a piece
of tin in the paddock. Velvet Worms in the Phylum Onychophora are widely considered to be
moisture-loving rainforest dwellers so finding one on the cracking clay soils in the Brigalow
Belt South Bioregion raised more than a few questions. With a new search image I began looking
diligently and over the next six months found twenty or so. They are a significant find and almost
certainly an undescribed species.
