The Large Magellanic Cloud(LMC) is a satellite galaxy of our Milky Way, approx. 170 000 light years away. The embedded Tarantula Nebula is a huge star forming regin, glowing in the light of excited hydrogen and oxygen gas. It is the only extra galactic nebula visible with naked eye vision.
The LMC is only visible from the southern hemisphere
