Niagara Falls, NY
The rapids and falls are incredible in the winter. This was taken in February of 2008, on the American side. There is a gorgeous visitor center, then paths along the river and the falls. What you won’t see in summer is the frozen spray that covers everything.
The falls had a lot of ice, but the flow and the roar of the water are still very impressive. Far below you can see the excursion boats pulled up out of the water.
It’s worth a trip to Buffalo, but make sure you have your passport (or other proof of citizenship). It’s way too easy to end up on the Canadian side.
