Home sweet home

Actually none of these is my house - we have large trees in our street that make it diffiicult to photograph the houses but they look just like these ones round the corner. They are victorian houses built on London clay so it's not uncommon to see them leaning to one side due to subsidence. My sister in law spent some time working on the computerisation of the British records office and so managed to get us a copy of the census return for our house for, I think, 1901. We found that each room in the house contained a whole family - one with three children! I never seem to have enough room just for the two of us. Makes me realise how lucky I am!

I've been searching for those papers all evening and can I find them....no!

We were in GB for three weeks last summer and for part of it did a house swap with some friends in Nottingham -- their place looked just like this! We're pretty certain that if we lived in GB we'd be useless for anything other than filling up the PBase servers!!!

Great shot of the neighborhood! This is so interesting to see and learn about other folks and where they live. It brings an understanding. Thank you for sharing!

And I agree, we are fortunate.

That makes our 300 plus feet from the gate to the house seem a very long way :>) They're great looking buildings, Gail. They don't build anything as good any more.

It sort of reminds me of the B&B I've stayed at near Victoria Station.
Thanks for the history lesson too Gail and let me know if there's any Darby's in those census papers : )

the houses look very nice, i really love the tall windows. what i find unusual though is the square nature of the houses. :) houses here in the states tend to be individual homes with peaks and slopes on the roof-tops.

it's always good to take things into perspective. you tend to be a lot happier and appreciative of what you have.
