Substitution

One of the joys of the internet is supermarket shopping. Press lots of buttons and a day later a man turns up with your shopping.... Excellent. But, Sainsbury's have a substitution system so that if the thing you order is out of stock the 'picker' substitutes something that they believe to be similar to to what you ordered - but you don't have to take them. I answered the door this week, I looked quickly down the list of substitutions, saw that the wheat beer Jeremy had ordered was out of stock and that they had substituted it for.. wheat beer (huh?) - "that's ok" I said. But as we were packing it away I realised I'd missed a word... raspberry. So, now I have to drink them. What does it taste like? I'd describe it as..........interesting.

But does the end justify the means?!

I am sure it is good with custard. As for substitution, I am still waiting for Jessops to substitue a Nikon D2X for the out of stock flash lead I am waiting for.....

not convinced by raspberry wheat beer but I agree totally with the joys of internet shopping - I do all my food, white goods, drink shopping online. Best substitution I've seen? ordered - 1 cos lettuce, substituted 2 punnets of blueberries!!!! Eh? So how would two punnets of blueberries make a good salad? I have just tried Waitrose (Ocado.com) for the first time - boy are they impressive. Highly recommended.

yeh, good idea! Feed it to the squirrel!

I gotta get me some of that! Try badgers golden champion or badgers golden glory. Honney beer is also good.

I wonder if it tastes anything like Belgian Kreik - they do it in cherry and strawberry. Unusual, but quite nice once you get the taste for it.

That's funny! Hey, if we don't have what you want, we'll give you something we think you'll want! Makes for a surprise each time.

I've bought many many things on line, but never done the supermakrket shop that way. Maybe I should try to see what surprises I get! lol

Hmmm...can't wait to find out how it tasted! I don't think it would be my cup of tea...my mug of beer, I mean!

Vinh Luu03-Jun-2005 00:13
well.. it sounds *ahem*.. interesting. :) "taste the difference!" it says... from regular wheat beer? :P

so you make use of the internet grocery shopping thing? we had webvan and what not here in the states, but most of them have flopped. i guess people really prefer to do their own grocery shopping. granted, we now have self-checkout which is awesome, and much faster than having a cashier do it.
