Red squirrel (Tamiasciurus hudsonicus)
I'm not sure where the expression "Cute as a button" comes from (are buttons cute??), but it came to mind when this little guy ran toward me and then posed like this, probably expecting peanuts, because someone has been leaving some at the garden for the critters.

Eastern chipmunk (Tamias striatus)
The same chipmunk posted earlier, this time s/he successfully found a peanut.

Red squirrel (Tamiasciurus hudsonicus)
A very characteristic and common pose, the red yelling at everyone!

Eastern chipmunk (Tamias striatus)
The mild weather has brought the chipmunks out and this one was scuttling towards some peanuts that someone had put near the ravine. A red squirrel was also very unwarily approaching the peanuts too.

Mourning dove
Another shot of the rather sad looking dove posted earlier. Definitely looks worse for wear, but was happily pecking away on the ground, gleaning seeds.

Willow Salix)
This is the big willow at the western edge of the pond, which reliably attracts many pollinators with its pollen laden catkins (should be soon).

Song sparrow
Many song sparrows back now, of course, but not always for me to photograph. Others get lovely shots, I rarely do, but at least this one shows the sparrow!

Mallard pair
Mallards have paired up and this couple were cruising the pond. Mallards have nested at FWG in the past, but not always successfully, though one year I recall seeing a family of downy ducklings which very sadly vanished day by day until only one was left, and the next time I went to the garden,a little later, there were no mallards at all, and I expect the last downy young also vanished and the adults departed

Mourning dove
This dove looks a bit worse for wear but was feeding on seeds in the sunshine, quite contentedly it seemed/

The Ravine
Looking east down the ravine from the bridge over the pond.

The Ravine
Looking south down the slope to the stream running through the ravine. There was quite a bit of activity at this point, with juncos and song sparrows rustling through the leaves, a mourning dove feeding under the sumacs, chipmunks and red squirrels darting in to pick up peanuts someone had placed for them, as well as chickadees and other birds/
