Dinner with our Toronto friends at New Ho King Restaurant

When we got to Toronto, my daughter and son-in-law's friend Alvin hosted a dinner for us at one of their favorite local eateries, the New Ho King Restaurant. We had snails done 2 ways, crabs also done 2 ways, assorted seafood in a taro nest, a steamed grouper, sauteed bean stalks, and two dishes that were especially outstanding: deep-fried pork ribs with garlic ("suen heung gwut") and a chicken casserole with scallions ("guy bo"). The latter had a mundane name, but the taste was anything but. The chicken pieces were moist and flavorful on the inside, and deliciously crispy on the outside. We finished off the meal with a very good red bean soup, better than what is usually available in New York.
