Today I turned 37. No big deal. Don't really feel any older. Hell if anything,
I feel more alive than ever. Sure the grey hairs are starting to come in more
and the wrinkles on my face are a little more pronounced, but who cares? Not me.
I spent the whole day trying to figure out how to put the number 37 into
photographic form. A few years ago I had dice with a 3 and a 4 on them.
I wanted to grow beyond something simple like that.
I spent the early part of the day, much like any other Sunday. Reading the paper
while eating a healthy breakfast and drinking a nice cup of coffee.
At 4pm, we met my parents for dinner at Applebee's. They've got a Weight Watchers
section in their menu, so it's a no brainer when you order. And the food is still
plentiful and quite tasty. We had a nice meal and conversation.
After dinner, the four of us headed out to spend the last night at the fair.
I had to be there to pick up my photos anyways, so we do most of our fair fun then.
I had an elephant ear with Splenda and cinnamon for my birthday cake this year.
Yummy!! It was worth whatever points it cost me, but I'm glad I get lots of
exercise in earlier this week.
Ian and Amber went on a few rides, and I went on the giant slide with Ian.
Ian won a stuffed penguin playing a game against mommy, and I'm not sure she let him win. =)
I had big plans when I went to bed last night, about what I was going to do today.
I was thinking about an early morning bike ride down to the lakefront to watch the
sunrise. Maybe go play 2-3 rounds of disc golf. Perhaps go buy myself a cd or dvd.
I ended up doing none of those things.
What I ended up doing wasn't the most extravagant way to spend my birthday,
but at my age, and at this point in time in my life, it's not about me anymore.
It's about my family and spending time with them.
Watching them go round and round on a scrambler, having the time of their lives.
For me, that's what it's all about.
