Training Day

Sitting around the house today when Ian comes up to me and asks if I would take his one last remaining training wheel off his bike. He's been cruising around with one training wheel for most of the summer. He really didn't NEED it, but he needed a safety net so to speak. And he really doesn't ride his bike all that much anyways. Which is kinda weird, cuz when I was little I rode my bike all the time. But I do recall that I had a hard time getting rid of the trainers myself.

So, I headed out with wrench in hand and took the training wheel off the left side of the bike, and cut him loose. His first trek down this stretch of sidewalk, he somehow managed to lose his ability to go in a straight line and headed straight for my car which was parked in the street. He didn't hit it or end up (too far) into the street, but it was kinda funny. After that, he got back up, put the bike on the sidewalk, and proceeded to take off down the block.

Once I saw he was getting the hang of it and no discouraged when he went off course, I came in and got my camera. Rattled off a few dozen shots, and posted the best ones in Ian's gallery. http://www.pbase.com/frsty50/ian_year_eight

My man!! Knew you could do it. I still have poor balance on the bike. The kids had a old tandom bike that we kept at the camp grounds. None of the kids wanted to take Mom for a ride because of my poor balance. I always felt like we were going to tip over.
