This surprised me, how the return loop of the trail ends! At U.S. Highway 30, the "Scenic Highway" of the Columbia Gorge. You have to walk down to the right a couple hundred feet and cross a very high bridge to get back to the car, or rather take the trail down to the base of the lower falls, which is what I did.
