Hiking time: 216 minutes, or 3 hours and 36 minutes. This is the most westerly notable waterfalls in the Columbia Gorge and thus the closest to where we live in Portland. Really took my time taking pictures at every opportunity. This is a short but steep hike (2.4 miles round trip, elevation gain 520 feet (at least)). Did not take my full day pack but my larger lumbar pack. Also took my tripod so most of my images (those on the tripod) were (basically) free of noise. Also, with the camera body on a tripod, it is much more convenient to change lenses and I did that freely throughout the hike whenever the composition called for it. I wore two lens pouches on my belt, so all three lenses I took with me were conveniently accessed.

The trail was packed with people. This is a very popular trail because the lower falls is spectacular and it's a short loop hike, even though it is steep. It was very warm at the trail head (10:00 AM) and so I took off my thick outer pullover shirt and left my gloves in the trunk. Then I froze on the trail, which was much colder! But by the time I was 2/3 through the hike it had warmed up enough so that I wasn't freezing. Took 116 pictures of which 58 made the cut.
