Alcedo atthis (Martin Pescatore) maschio

Canon EOS 20D, Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM, 1/1600 f/6.3, iso 400, EV-0,3, supporto. Treviso,Italia.

These are the poses of the kingfisher when he notices other kingfishers inside its territory.
1- The male lands on the nest where the female is hatching, and when he see the other kingfisher he alerts the female with quick, strong hisses. He takes an erect pose, then he takes flight to attack the other bird.
2- The female come out from the nest and she looks to the scene; she hisses to scare away the intruder, and he takes flight to help the male. Many times, both the male and the female puffed up the feathers and erected the tail.
3- When the intruder goes away, the female leave the nest to the male (now he has to hatch the egg), so she has some time to fly and to feed.
