According to Sacred-Texts dot com, "The hand in the attitude of sacerdotal benediction, having the two first fingers and thumb extended, was an amulet against the evil eye long before the Christian era." I'll stick by my "secret hand signals" title. Or, perhaps, "mystical" would be better than "secret". There is much magic in modern day religion, but most religious people either don't know it or don't admit it.

There is nothing secret about this one. It is a typical hand formation used to this day. The two folded down fingers represent the two Natures of Christ; the three extended fingers represent the Three Persons of the Holy Trinity.
