Male Green-winged Teal

Southern Vancouver Island

These colourful little ducks aren't easy to get close to and it was a lucky morning when I found a group of them feeding in the estuary. Lucky because they were more interested in feeding than running from me! Green-winged Teal facts: Teals are rapid, agile flyers. They are the only duck known to scratch while in flight. ~ Animal Diversity Web

Looks like you're right Norm! I'll have to send this image link to Animal Diversity Web and ask them about it. Thanks for the information. - Racine

I'm sorry to contradict you, but I've seen photos of gulls scratching in flight ....somewhere. here I think, on pbase.

A very nice capture of this colorful Teal duck.
