Dabbling in the Mudflats

Southern Vancouver Island

There were so many teal foraging for food in the mudflats that you could hear the sound of their dabbling well before they came into sight. Green-winged Teal facts: Green-winged teal feed on seeds of sedges, smartweeds, pondweeds, grasses, aquatic insects, mollusks, crustaceans and tadpoles found while foraging in and adjacent to mudflats or while dabbling in shallow water.
