The Tow

Southern Vancouver Island

A tugboat, pulling a tow of logs, is such a common sight in the waters off Vancouver
Island that people seldom stop to look. This tug is pulling the logs to a mill for
processing. The smaller image below shows a second tug assisting with the tow.
They may be going to a mill on Vancouver Island or across the straits to somewhere
on the mainland. During the winter months weather is a major factor when towing
these rafts, get caught in a bad storm and the whole raft could be lost.

Great story telling in this shot!

A fantastic composition - there's a lovely graceful arc right across the frame, from the top of the mast, down through the boat and out across the logs...beautifully done Racine, and I do love the heat haze from the exhaust!!

Great perspective of the boat and logs. I like the textures of the water and the blur caused by the smokestack.

Very nice classic image. The smoke from the tug adds nice detail!

I like it and how the heat from the smokestack puts a blur on the water. Great composition!

What a mess it would be if the logs escaped in a storm. I just love your image. Perfectly cropped! V

I can imagine the wind picking up would be a real problem for them!

Super image, Racine, the angle of the tug in the water suggests it is pulling quite hard!!

Beautiful documentation of the hard work done to make a living in the Northwest. Love how you framed this.

Yes I'm sure pulling all those logs is not an easy task, specially in stormy weather!! Great photo Racine!
