Mt Rainier is one of the most awe inspiring sights we've ever seen. This was a morning shot, taken just before the clouds started to settle over the top of the mountain and block the view. The weather had been cloudy and rainy for several days and we were thankful that we at least got a glimpse of the mountain before we had to leave the area. Mount Rainier is an active volcano in western Washington, located just 54 miles (87 km) southeast of Seattle. It towers over the Cascade Range as the most prominent mountain in the contiguous United States at 14,411 feet.
