4/16/08 - Infrared Wetlands

Man, I just love this IR-converted D70. It makes shooting IR fun - I enjoyed IR results before having the camera converted but the multi-second exposure times with the opaque screw-in filter made getting those results a chore. I probably would have walked right by this scene and not made the effort before - because effort it was (both shooting and post-processing).
I've carried over my recent experiments in B&W to this IR. I really like the sepia effect. Overall, this image fascinates me - it looks like a old etching or something non-photographic. The fact that the trees have just started sprouting leaves gives a nicer effect than when they're in full leaf. I like the scratchy line effect of the barely green branches better than the mid-summer big white blob effect. Tomorrow I've got to go back and zoom in a bit more on the trees now that I see the effect they provide. Looks like it might be more interesting than the algae covered pond in the fore/mid-ground in this version.
