Taken while driving down into Kings Canyon (KC National Park, California).
This was a fun shot to visualize, plan, practice & execute. I stopped to look at the Kings River below me & fortunately looked up. The moon was going down but was still about 20-30 minutes from reaching the canyon top. This gave me time to *visualize* (frame in a canyon notch), *plan* (walk around looking for a shooting spot(s) that would make this happen), *practice* (camera & polarizer settings to get the best exposure) and *execute* (stand in the middle of the road with my tripod and release the shutter - about 1 car every 5 minutes).
Off to Vegas & night photos tomorrow - homeward bound.
PS - The inspiration for this shot was Jim Clark's "Summer Moonrise over Seneca Rocks" (p.47 in his book Mountain Memories). Moonrise, Seneca Rocks...Moonset, Kings Canyon - the idea's the same.
