An update of this image which has been a viewers' favorite since I first did it about 3 years ago with a point and shoot - http://www.pbase.com/ed_k/image/29534493 - which contains a description of how to do this in the comment section
Decided to see how it would look 3 years later using the D70. Technically maybe a bit better, but overall not much difference. I was trying to include more of the background flag in the image and get better sharpness and lighting throughout - and think that goal was met. In terms of sharpness, the "drops" were about a foot from the lens and the flag almost 4 feet and they're both reasonably sharp - the drops more so since they were the point of focus.
I did another one almost a year ago with the D70 and a macro lens - for less of the flag and a softer, more abstract graphic background - http://www.pbase.com/ed_k/image/54236424 - but I seem to be the only one who liked this version. The original was voted the "peoples' choice" in balloting by visitors to an exhibit of 78 images this month.
