1/6/06 - Hog Camp Branch

Haven't done any water PADs lately. I usually like other photographer's but am disappointed with mine. This one needs the proverbial frog wearing a red dinner jacket sitting on a rock (at a 1/3 rule power point, of course) for some visual interest. Technically it's ok; visually it's blah - no color in the mountains this time of year. (It could have been worse. There was a 15 foot long tree limb across the middle of the falls that I dragged away. It made a diagonal leading line for compositional purposes, but...)
Hog Camp Branch drains the Big Meadows wetlands and becomes the main source for the Dark Hollow Falls about 1 mile downstream (near mile post 50, Skyline Drive). If you park at Fishers Gap (mile post 49), you can make a nice circuit loop down to the Rose River, past the Rose River Falls, continue to the Dark Hollow Falls and back to Fishers Gap - with an old cemetary along the way, too. Less than 5 miles.

Nice job. Yes, it would have been nice to have some bright red leaves or your frog to spice up the shot, but you've got to work with what you've got, and you did it well.

Very nicely composed and the exposure is perfect...

Nice silky effect I like it. I need to get some good water shots soon and this has inspired me!
