12/24/04 - Somewhere Over the Rainbow

An early PAD. Not what I'd normally expect on December 23rd. Spent the morning in Shenandoah National Park. Saw only one other car in over two hours - but the weather might explain that. The north entrance was closed until 9 due to ice. When I took this shot, the wind was blowing between 40-50 mph. Lots of tree branches on Skyline Drive. My wife opined that we were the only ones deranged enough to venture out on such a day. Alternated between pea soup thick mist and rain - and slight breaks like this one where we rounded a bend and I hollered "Wow, look at that rainbow". The rainbow was much more breathtaking in real life. There was a glorious double when we first saw it - but it only lasted a few seconds and I wasn't fast enough due to the wind and rain.

I really love this rainbow shot. I am still waiting for one here, it has been years since last I seen a rainbow. I like the background as well, you are very lucky to get such a great picture. Very nice.
