This gallery began with an unseasonably warm first weekend in April prompted an exploration and a hike in our neighboring county to the west. This is a section of former Pennsylvania RR right of way in the vicinity of Reading, PA. As such, it passes by some of the present and former industrial and railroad infrastructure that occupied the Schuylkill River Valley. Reading is approximately half way between the designated end points, Philadelphia and Pottsville
This is part of the Thun ("tune") section of the SRT, named for Ferdinand Thun, a 19th C. Reading industrialist.
NOTE: Reading is a fair-sized city once strong in railroads, steel and textiles but it has fallen on some difficult economic times with the problems that often accompany that transition. As such, one is advised to maintain some "situational awareness" on the west/north end of this segment. (Not that such is a bad idea anywhere!)
