As of spring 2011, there were stretches of the Delaware Canal Towpath Trail that were closed due to flood damage. In August and September 2011, the additional massive rainfalls from Hurricane Irene and tropical storm Lee have made conditions even worse.
Lumberville is along Pennsylvania Route 32, River Road, in Bucks County. Right next to the Black Bass Hotel, a historic inn on the National Register, one finds a suspension bridge. The bridge is only for pedestrian traffic (and walked bicycles) and leads to Bulls island State Park, a New Jersey facility on the other side of the Delaware River. From that park, one may access the Delaware & Raritan Trail, a hiking and cycling trail using a combination of canal towpath and railroad right-of-way.
