This shot of a snow goose in flight clearly shows the clean, aerodynamic anatomy which is well adapted to long range migration flights with minimal expense of energy. The orange coloration on the face/head of some mature birds comes from natural iron oxide (i.e. rust) deposits in the bottom of ponds where they feed.
