DPR Macro Challenge #13 (MC13) Theme: Machinery

Macros and Close-Ups of mechanisms, machines, or parts therof. This can be as simple as a screw or as complex as an integrated circuit. Watches, auto parts, tools, or other gadgets come to mind. The subjects could be household objects or nuclear missile parts.
General Guidelines:
Entries begin Friday, 30 September 2005 and end at 23:59:59 (midnight) UTC on Thursday, 06 October 2005.

Up to 2 entries per person to be posted in this gallery.
Images no older than 6 months.
Images 1000px max (and compressed to keep file sizes down). 800px 'native' size in PBase.
View at 'original' size ('other sizes:' under the image) to see larger images at full quality.
(PBase generates a heavily compressed 800px 'large' size from larger images.)
Include the image name AND your name in the title, eg Winning Image - Macromaniac.

Hi John. I'm not going to actually remove any of the photos. I really do believe that “macro and close-up” is pretty specific, but that’s my interpretation. I intended to actively comment on any photos that I felt were non-macros so that the posters would have a chance to replace them with closer shots. But the problems with that are twofold. First, I didn’t have time to constantly check things so a lot of what I consider to be non-macros got entered and I did not get a chance to comment on them specifically. And second, if someone enters one right at the end of the challenge, then even if I commented on it, they’d have little time to create and upload an alternate. So, I’ve decided not to officially disqualify anything that has been entered. However, as the sole judge of the photos, and because the topic of this challenge (machinery) and the general theme of these challenges (DPR Macro Challenges) is subject to my sole discretion, you will probably note that the shots I choose as winners will most likely be very close-up shots of machinery :) I know that it's up to personal preference as to what is a macro and what isn't, so I don't want my decisions in this challenge to carry over into future ones. I don’t have any authority to make such decisions, that will have to be up to future judges. I'm sorry if my inability to keep up with the new non-macro entries gave you the impression that I was singling yours out for disqualification. They are hereby officially reinstated :) The only thing I feel bad about was that I wanted to give people fair warning that I wouldn't be considering non-macros but I didn't really get a chance to comment on all of the shots that I won't be considering. In a sense, that has given you an unfair advantage because you could have replaced your shots while the others may have been unaware that theirs wouldn't fit my criteria. I just haven't had enough time to properly police the new entries. Don't feel bad at all. It's nothing against your great shots specifically. After seeing all of the machinery entries which are not necessarily macros, I kind of think it would be nice to have a general machinery photo challenge which could include any sort of machine photos. It seems to be a popular subject and has brought out some great entries – macro and non-marco. Sorry about the confusion everyone. Jim H.
