Yes. I do like this one better. It has a more 'solid' appearance. It captures more of the essence of the instrument. However, it is upside down. Maybe this way it looks better to you? I think I would prefer it if the star on the pick were above the strings, and then you'd see the strings underneath for a quick peek. It's good that this photo doesn't show too much of one thing, and it does put emphasis on the pick, which is the subject. I like this one, though I think it may need a little color correction, and better focus in general. Handheld at 1/15sec is quite good though.

Thank you all for your comments. Yes, this is an old(1930-40ish) Italian style Bowlback mandolin. Does'nt have a name on it. The broken string is in my other photo here and is also on a different mandolin, a newer "A" style. Hope that clears it up some. Thanks again..

Am I missing something or are you guys not looking at the picture carefully? Where's the broken string? Where are the 12 strings? I'm guessing this is a mandolin, hence the eight strings arranged in pairs. -- Victor
What a nice pic -- and one which has been used, judging by the wear on the tip. I like this picture better than the other because of the contrast with the background. -- Victor
