Because the pedals are connected between the front and back seats, every time
Sydney decided to coast, Kim's pedals would stop moving. Then, when Kim would
go to put her feet back on the idle pedals, Sydney would go back to
pedaling and the pedals would hit Kim's feet.

Amusement abounds. Definitely a case of operator error.
