Inscription of Tarhuntassa

This document, written in Hittite cuneiform, found in the 1986 excavations in Hattusha, is the only bronze tablet found in Anatolia. It sheds light on the historical geography of Anatolia in the 2nd millennium BC. It is a treaty made between the Great Hittite King Tuthaliya IV and King Kurunta of the Tarhuntassa Country in 1235 BC. In this treaty, Tuthaliya promised Kurunta and his children the rule of the Tarhuntassa Kingdom and the rule of another region in the future. However, he also stipulated that he should not aspire to his "Great Kingdom" over the entire Hatti country. "A Thousand Gods" were shown as witnesses for the compliance with the articles of the treaty.
