The Murat Paşa Mosque is one of two “Bursa type” mosques in Istanbul and is the mosque one will pass when transferring from the underground from the airport or the bus station to the one taking you into the centre, at Aksaray. Bursa type mosques are two square room, each with a dome, in succession, with an arch between the two room. I like it a lot.
The founder was a convert from the imperial family of the Palaeologues, who became a vezir under Fatih Mehmet the Conqueror and died in battle when still relatively young. He founded the mosque in 1469, which is seven years later then the other Bursa mosque, the Mahmut Paşa near the Nurosmaniye. Of that I hardly have pictures because - at the time I tried to take some pictures - the imam decided it was "forbidden". I think he made it up or maybe that was just what he thought should be the rule. His rule, that is. I'll give it another try some day.
