An older Kurdish gentleman wearing the traditional men’s costume of the Hakkâri, Siirt, Şırnak and Mardin region. Apart from the ordinary ready-to-wear shirt and the ‘Turkish’ cap, it consists of five garments: large pyjamas-like trousers with wide straight legs reaching to the ground (not shown on the picture), a sleeveless waistcoat, a jacket with long sleeves (all three made of the same mohair fabric, the ensemble being called ‘şal-şepik’), and a woollen belt held in place by a leather belt.
