Bursa dec 2007 1431.jpg

On the picture: Standing in front of the Türbe (mausoleum) of Sultan Murad II and looking in northeastern direction, toward the Muradiye Mosque (whose domes and two minarets show in the background).
On the right upper edge of the picture: the lead-covered awning above the entrance of the tomb of Murad II.
Between the two: The grave monument of Şehzade Ahmet, the second son of sultan Beyazid II.

Şehzade Ahmet (being the sultan’s oldest living son, and governor of Amasya at the time) waged war against his younger brother Selim, who became sultan (Selim I) after forcing their father to abdicate (1512). Finally, the forces of Selim and Ahmet fought a battle near Yenişehir, Bursa on April 24, 1513. Ahmet's forces were defeated; he was arrested and executed shortly after. He was buried in this tomb, which his mother Bülbül Hatun built two years earlier, unaware of the dramatic course history would have.
