Figurine of a bearded mountain god. From Boğazkale. New Hittite kingdom, 14th century BC.
Ivory. Height: 3,6 cm, width: 1,5 cm (at its base).

A pointed head-gear with horns is symbolic of divinities. The figure wears earrings in the extraordinarily large ears. His naked torso emerges from a stepped cone symbolizing mountain peaks. The hole in the base of the cone shows that it was meant to be fixed on to some object; it may have been held in the hand of a larger statue of a god.
