Adana Archaeological Museum Thetys Mosaic 2 4th AD 0385.jpg

Dated to the early fourth century AD this mosaic was uncovered in a Roman villa at the ancient city of Anavarza within the Kozan district. Thetys in the middle of the panel is flanked with a rudder to her right, sea dragon Ketos to her left, and an Eros fishing with a rod on either side. Thetys is usually depicted with wings on top pf her head. The Thetys on this panel has her hairs opening up like wings, she is usually depicted as a young an beautiful woman but in this panel she is rendered more masculine. One of the Erotes is on a dolphin and the other is depicted by the seaside with a basket on his arm. The panel is framed with white bands and geometric motifs.
