Thetys 1 mosaic
Dated to the third century AD this mosaic was uncovered in a Roman villa at the ancient city of Aigeai in Yumurtalık district of Adana. The figure of Thetys in the centre of the panel is flanked with a rudder on the left, the sea dragon Ketos around her head and right shoulder and Erotes catch fish in the four corners. Tethys is usually depicted with wings on her head, but here she has claws of a lobster or crab. In the upper corners of the panel are Erotes catching fish with a net; in the bottom corners with a rod. The rest of the panel is filled with various sea creatures such as dolphin, horse mackerel, mackerel, grouper, haddock, garfish, seabass, crab, lobster and octopus.
