Bursa Hudavendigar Mosque May 2014 7561.jpg

Standing in the congregation hall of the mosque; in its west aisle (which has the form of a half-open room) to be precise, and looking towards the entrance at the hall’s north side. Above the door, a platform for the singers has been arranged; on special occasions – the last evening of Ramadan, Kandil (= birthday of the prophet Muhammad), and other – the solemn prayer can be accompanied by a male chorus reciting sacred texts.
The platform was not part of the original 14th century draft; it has been added during some later restoration.

The murals date from the 1904 restoration and are an example of late-Ottoman style, mixing 16th century classic design with 19th century Turkish ‘Baroque’, influenced by European Neo-Classicism.
