Grave stele (upper half). Late Hitite, end of 8th - beginning of 7th century BC.
From Kahramanmaraş (190 km northeast of Adana). Not a excavation find.
Basalt, Height: 100 cm (for the whole stele).

The woman wears a low polos (cylindrical crown) adorned with rosettes, and a necklace with a rectangular cut stone. In her left hand she is holding a spindle with the thread hanging down.
The young man is holding a stylus in one hand, and a tablet in the other.
The relief depicts a mother and her literate son from a noble family.
