Misty,
I worked at the Red Bird Station in 1969 while attending Southwest high vocational automotive. You are correct on the flipped garages as they were on left side of station .if i remember correctly there was a Liggets pharmacy across the street with a lunch counter. Great time to be in Miami.

Guest - I was wrong on my last comment. Father ran the station on the corner of Red and Bird in the late 60's. I thought this was an early pic of it, but after reading the posts, I can see it's not. bays are flipped right and left, and there's 2 not 3. I'd like an early picture of the Red and Bird station across from Allens or any info if someone has it. Misty

I am looking for more info about this station. My father ran this station in the 60s. Would love to find more info about it. His name is Ken Minor. Thanks

Isn't this now a BP gas station on the corner of SW 82nd Ave & Bird Rd across from a Caballero-Rivero funeral home?

Okay Mark and Larry, thanks for your input. I've changed it to "west" of the Palmetto instead of "east." Thanks!

I concur with lmartin, the Standard station at Red Bird is essentially the same building that is there now. It is distiguished by the 3 garage bays on the left side of the building rather than right as shown here. The Red Bird station was built some time between 1945-1951 - a drawing at Dade County's microfilm department has a date of 1947 on it.

Jorge,
I think this station is somewhere around Bird and the 80's Ave even thought it says east of the Palmetto. The station you refer to is across from Allen's Drugs and has a shopping center behind it, the Red Bird Shopping Center.

Hey I was curious because my father told me his first job when he moved to Miami in 68' was at a standard oil on Bird Road. I was wondering if this station was at the corner of Bird and Red Road? It's now a Citgo.

Wasn't this station west of the Palmetto around 79th Ave. on the North side?

This was one of the company owned stations. I worked there in 67 , this was a Standard oil of Kentucky station. Rick.

That might be an S&H Green Stamps sign between the garage bays. I think this was later a Texaco station.
