Best memories of my childhood are the many vacations staying at TheGolden Stand in the mid 70's to mid 80' s when my grandfather Lloyd Welch had exclusive use of the Penthouse floor. I remember the huge pool and its high diving board, the mini putt, Rosetta who was a house maid and so kind. In my heart and memories, always.

Mike, thank you for your advisement of the upcoming closing and demolition, presumably for yet another high-rise condom to further block the ocean from hotel guests. I will try to get some aerial photos of it on an upcoming helicopter tour that I've paid for.

Sadly the Golden Strand Hotel will be closing in 2016.I was fortunate enough to stay in the top floor penthouse where I'm assuming a variety of famous people may have stayed. I actually woke to the thought of its value due to the developments on either side and later that evening herd of its closing. It will be missed by many.

My family owned The Golden Strand in the 60s. We would spend our winters there, and I remember my brother hiding from Stormy, the swim instructor, the lovely woman who worked in the gift shop and so much more.....Great memories.

I am assuming that the current buildings are original, albeit altered beyond recognition in some places. Is it still interesting, or run down??

I just saw the Golden Strand cabana boy Nick Belmonte announcing on ESPN a few weeks ago. He was darn good. Here's to the GS alums!

This where the Saint Louis Blues hockey team would come down and vacation. They would have a hockey game in the pool. Bob Hoffman was the pool manager in the 70's. He was a member of the USA team from Wide World of Sports when they showed Acapulco Cliff Diving. They would have diving shows for the guest. It was amazing.The cabana boy for a few years was Nick Belmonte who is now a TV sports analyst who ended up playing pro ball. His dad, Nick Sr., was the pool manager in the 60's at the Tropicana and the Windward. And, yes the picture is somehow backwards.

We've enjoyed staying at the Golden Strand for many years now. You can't beat the beach or the view. It's the only old building left on the Golden Mile.

this picture is somehow backwards. I was there for many yearsas the son of Charlie Diehl the pool and cabana manager. The cabanas were on the north side of the property, next to the Colonial Inn. The Pan American motel was south.
