I went to Hoffman's Cafeteria many times in 1948-49 as we lived a half block away from Hoffman's Cafeteria; we rented an apartment at 1420 Collins Avenue, a half block from Espanola Way. The building was called Dolores Apartments then and is now The Dolores Hotel, a boutique hotel near what is now Jerry's. I atttended Ida M. Fischer Junior High School then and had gone to Central Beach Elementary School the year before. Although I bought a condominium in Boca Raton on the Intra-Coastal Waterway in the mid-nineties to 2003, it was never as wonderful in Boca Raton as it has been living on Collins Avenue near Hoffmans. No doubt it was the wonder of childhood that I was remembering and missing. Sadly, you really can't go back home again.

My grandfather, Ben Saltzman worked at Hoffmans for probably twenty years. He was the KING of the meat station and carver extraordinaire. My sister and I went every day after school at Central Beach Elementary (me) and Ida M. Fischer, (she).
We would fake having hiccups so Grandpa Benny would give us his cure all, SUGAR WATER. Thanks for that memory!

I went to Hoffman's in 1973 with my grandfather (I was 16) who was staying at the Royal Palm Hotel. I took a black & white photo of Hoffman's from across the street, which looks like many of the photos on these Web sites. The picture is an 8x10 print and hangs in my office.

I wonder if the owners of Jerry's Deli would be interested in the picture. It's a great shot.

As a kid my parents always slowed down as we drove past here and told us how they met in Hoffmans.......in 1946!

This is now Jerry's Deli. Before that it was the Warsaw Ballroom in the 80's.
