Update 2013. Just returned to this magnificent railway which now runs all the way from Porthmadog to Caernarfon, and the return journey is now over five hours (50miles) .
In 2009 the Welsh Highland Railway has extended its journey southwards, and now runs all the way from Caernarfon to Hafon y Llyn (just to the south of Beddgelert) and includes the scenic beauty of the Aberglaslyn Pass.
Also new this year is a first-class Pullman observation car, a great way to see the scenery as the full return journey takes four hours.
Thank you Derec, it is indeed a great experience, with top rate service from the staff too. My only regret with my latest trip is that I left the lens hood for my Canon lens in the Aberglaslyn Pass when I got a little over enthusiastic taking pictures out of the window and dropped it onto the track side :-)
Lovely images, my daughter in law and grandson works for this railway company, I have been on this ride once & thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Voted !!!
