Flight into Egypt is a biblical narrative from the Gospel of Matthew (Matthew 2:13–23).
A jealous King Herod orders the "Massacre of the Innocents," demanding the death of all young male children in and around Bethlehem.
An angel appears to Joseph in a dream, commanding him to take the baby Jesus and Mary to Egypt and stay there until instructed to return.
Joseph immediately obeys, leaving Bethlehem by night with the Holy Family.
