This stained glass window features a portrait of the Polish Pope John Paul II (1920-2005).
It was carved from a block of grey rock salt by the miner-artist Stanisław Anioł and his assistants.
The sculpture was created as a gesture of gratitude after Pope John Paul II canonized Saint Kinga—the patron saint of salt miners—on June 16, 1999.
It is celebrated as the only monument of the Pope in the world made entirely out of salt
