This Messier Object is located in the constillation Saggita at about RA 19hr.54min. Dec +18deg. 47min.
M71 was discovered by Philippe Loys de Chéseaux in 1746. Charles Messier added the this cluster to his catalog in 1780.
Until the 1970's this cluster was catagorized as an open cluster but the general acceptance is now for a gloular cluster. Located about 12,000 light years from earth.
James Cuffey wrote an interesting paper exploring the possibility of M71 being a globular cluster in 1943.
