Of course Botany Bay was the original landfall for the "First Fleet" when it arrived in 1788. This
cylindrical monument lists the people who came with those first ships. While most of these people
were convicts in chains, THESE days it is considered pretty special to be able to claim an ancestor
among the very first settlers. Nope! There are no Kennedys or Hobbses amongst this lot. Gerry's
Irish forebears and my cockney antecedents gate crashed Australia a good deal later.
