WCS1545.jpg

Once on the sand we turn to the left. We see Henry Head and the entrance to Botany Bay. It will take
us several legs of the journey to walk all around Botany Bay to Inscription Point at the southern
side of the Bay entrance. Botany Bay was the most extensive port of call that James Cook made on
his 1770 voyage to the east coast of Australia. It became the recommended site for the first settlement
at "New South Wales". When the "First Fleet" arrived in 1788. Arthur Philip accepted that Port Jackson,
(a waterway that Cook named but never entered - now most often called "Sydney Harbour") would be a
superior location for Sydney Town and work began on the first settlement, there.
