Kenly, NC - An 1830s structure originally built as a dwelling for slaves. Constructed as a one-room pine house with dovetail notches and pegs. Features an unusual chimney made of heart-pine sticks and daubed with clay-based mortar. It is the only mud and stick chimney known to be intact in North Carolina. Privately owned but interpretive information for this African American site is provided by the Tobacco Farm Life Museum.
