04-26-2004

Pittsburgh, PA

I didn’t feel much like shooting today during lunch as it was so gray and dim outside. I also just didn’t feel much like shooting inside the building. I had a feeling that the light outside would improve and by 5PM it had indeed! I stopped by the Allegheny Cemetery on my way our city apartment to walk around and enjoy the light.

I found the grave of Civil War era General Alexander Hays. He was killed on the first day of the Wilderness Battle by a shot to the head. This is the eagle that sits atop his memorial.

Incidentally, he was also commander of the original 63rd PVI. What a coincidence as I happened to photograph the modern re-enactors this month. Those shots can be seen in my 63rd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry gallery.

Great perspective Ron! Very imposing?

Ideally, a little fill on the underside of the right wing would be nice, but I think you pulled it off nicely. I like the placement of his head looking back in the frame.
