Moraine State Park

On Sunday I had a great hike with my sweetie “Cat” and a very old buddy, Steve. It’s been below freezing for a while with no snow so I figured the lake would be frozen and smooth. It was and we had a great day playing on the ice. It was perfectly smooth and clear so we could see the bottom down to around 5 feet or so. Being that Steve and I turn into 8 year olds, she decided to head home and allow us “boys” to play on our own for a while. (She also wanted to go shopping and it was really COLD out there….LOL) We had a blast sliding around and even spotted a muskrat swimming under the ice!

Anyway, to get this shot I had to worm my way under the low hanging branches. Being that the ice was so smooth with a slight sheen of water I couldn’t get any traction and had nothing to grip to pull my self under. I can still hear Steve howling with laughter as I wriggled my way under there an inch at a time!

Thanks to Patrick Tiffany for helping me choose which shot to post for this day, I just couldn’t decide! The rest of them are at My Winter Gallery at the end, after the hay bales shot…

Now to post yesterdays…falling behind….

What a lovely picture! I love how the ice just hangs off the branches. The colour and composition are really outstanding!

another great image. It looks like you and I had the same idea for this day but we have totally different treatments of it. I really like this shot immensely. - liza

Actually I made a cardinal sin in processing this one. I wanted to make a change to the image I had already uploaded. Not having the original on the PC I was at, I saved the one from here, made the change and re-uploaded it. I also notice a bit of aliasing on some of the branches. When I get home tonight I will go back to the original file and fix everything then re-upload again. That should take care of it. You have some keen eyes there mate. ;-)

This is an excellent photo of a very interesting subject - very well done.
I see some fringing around the branches on the upper left part - could that be oversharpening or due to resizing ? ( or is it my laptop monitor ? )

Wow, that's some sort of ice world you've found here. I think you've gone from Lord of the Rings to The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe! Harry Potter tomorrow??

I viewed your newest in the winter gallery earlier but didnt want to seem repetitive with my ohhhhs and awwwwws...and did wonder about that muskrat..thank goodness he was alive.

What a beautiful scene. And to allow your "inner child" to play was delightful I am sure.
