Standing in a Green World.

For a Breton, distant descendant of the megalith people, the sight of a standing stone (menhir) inevitably evokes his native Brittany. A mysterious symbol still mysterious and more than 5000 years old, perhaps linked to celestial observations to establish a planting schedule…

In Japan, of course, the meaning of a standing stone is quite different. It refers to Zen Buddhism and can for example symbolize a mountain.

Thus, discovering this beautiful mossy stone in the Yuzen garden our thoughts oscillate between two universes, so distant in time and by the representation of the World to which they refer….

Stones and rocks are essentially eternal and outlast the features around them. In Australia, the indigenous community feature these in their verbal history but don't erect standing stones. Nice angle for the light. V!

the attraction of standing stones is certainly primal, with different significance for different cultures...this one, amid it's setting, seem very special..

A fine representation of a Zen mountain - or, as you say, a Breton standing stone. The gardens look very lush for that time of year.
